abstract

development of resistant variety to powdery mildew (pm) is necessary. therefore, during past years some of the sugar beet genotypes were screened to this disease in kermanshah. one of the genotypes named 14442 showed resistance to pm disease. this genotype with two male sterile lines (ms261 and ms231) was used to determine the number of genes responsible for resistance to disease. crosses between 14442, ms261 and ms231 were done and segregating generations were evaluated. based on results, f2 plants in both crosses (14442*ms261 and 14442*ms231) could be divided in two phenotypic classes with ratio of 3:1. in back crosses two phenotypic classes with ratio of 1:1 were obtained. these results showed that pm disease was controlled with a single dominant gene.

development of diploid pollinator for resistance to powdery mildew disease in sugar beet

for development of pollinator parent resistant to powdery mildew disease of sugar beet, relatively resistant 14442 population was used. based on resistance index, 50 resisitant plants were selected to produce half sib family(h.s.f). after random pollination between these 50 plants, seed of h.s.f was harvesed. from these 50 plants, only 39 plants had produced enough seed. next year these h.s.f w...

genetic analysis of powdery mildew resistance in some barely lines

powdery mildew, caused by blumeria graminis hordei, is currently the most serious foliar disease of barley in worldwide and reduced barley yield. the use of resistant cultivars is an efficient, economical and environmentally way to control of powdery mildew in barley. in this research a half diallel design was used for genetic analysis of resistance to powdery mildew (bgh) in barley. six barley...

Efficiency of resistance genes in wheat to powdery mildew in some centers of disease incidence in Iran

Wheat powdery mildew caused by fungal pathogen Blumeria graminis f.sp. tritici is a destructive wheat disease, occurring in regions with cool and humid climates. In order to investigate the changes in pathogenicity of the disease and to identify the effective genetic source of resistance, a total of 29 wheat genotypes with different resistance major genes (Pm) were studied in two hotspots of Go...

Characterization of resistance mechanisms to powdery mildew (Erysiphe betae) in beet (Beta vulgaris).

Beet powdery mildew incited by Erysiphe betae is a serious foliar fungal disease of worldwide distribution causing losses of up to 30%. In the present work, we searched for resistance in a germplasm collection of 184 genotypes of Beta vulgaris including fodder (51 genotypes), garden (60 genotypes), leaf (51 genotypes), and sugar (22 genotypes) beet types. Resistant genotypes were identified in ...

progressive pattern of powdery mildew disease in sugar beet fields in isfahan province

sugar beet cultivation is of great importance in isfahan province. powdery mildew is a major limiting factor to sugar beet. to evaluate powdery mildew status in sugar beet fields, samples were collected from main sugar beet growing areas including, isfahan, semirom, farydan and komsheche during 2009-10. in order to determine the disease severity, in each region, samples were taken at six growth...

effect of powdery mildew disease on quantity and quality of sugar beet yield in kermanshah province

to study  the effect of powdery mildew on sugar beet yield and percentage of sugar losses sugar percent losses, ten genotypes were compared in a factorial  experiment based on  randomized complete block design with 3 replications and two factors. the first factor was spraying treatment with two levels and the second were genotypes. inoculation was carried out using the pathogens' conidial ...
